Leading and pioneering stainless steel producer Fagersta Stainless –part of Marcegaglia Group since 2023– selected Danieli technologies for strategic product-expansion projects at its works in Fagersta, Sweden, on a Danieli mill supplied in 1984.

The first project calls for installing a bar in coil line to produce not only rounds but also squares and hexagons, starting from 8.5 and 8.8-mm-dia in 1-ton coils, at 35 tons per hour.

To be built on a plancher, the new bar-in-coil line will receive hot-rolled bars from the same rolling mill feeding the wirerod line and make use of the finishing services of the wirerod mill for coil compacting and tying operations.

Two new Morgardshammar housingless stands like those operating in the rolling mill will finish the whole stock, exploiting same cartridges, spares and knowledge. A specially designed, fast-transfer system will quickly deliver the hot coils formed by Garrett coilers into a water tank for solubilization, granting uniform microstructure.

This will be achieved through an innovative, energy-saving process that will lower energy consumption and related carbon emissions.

The layout of the line will allow future, higher productivity up to 50 tph, and double coil-weight capacity.

The investment will guarantee Fagersta the highest quality of a broader product range, the maximum production flexibility and best production costs.

Hot startup is scheduled for Q1 2026.
