Great performances from Danieli cold pilger mill at Nuclear Fuel Complex
The new "Quarto Cold Pilger Mill" is processing zirconium tubes and bars for nuclear applications
Nuclear Fuel Complex (NFC), a leading producer of niche tubes for nuclear applications, has given final acceptance to the 32-Q-C type Cold Pilger Mill -CPM installed at Hyderabad plant in India.
The mill is designed to produce zirconium alloy tubes for nuclear cladding applications with ODs ranging from 9 to 22 mm (OD tolerance ± 0.2%) and WTs from 0.3 to 2.5 mm (WT tolerance ± 3%) and zirconium alloy bars with ODs ranging from 8 to 16 mm (OD tolerance ± 0.05 mm). The exceptionally rigid Quarto mill stand configuration allows Danieli CPM to produce zirconium tubes and bars in the very tight required geometrical tolerances at extremely high production rates (more than 180 m/h for tubes, more than 130 m/h for bars). The possibility of producing tubes and bars on the same mill using the cold rolling process is a unique feature of Danieli’s CPM.
A second CPM, to process up to 50-mm-dia stainless steel tubes, will be delivered to NFC by end 2017.
